ISLAMABAD: A delegation of French senators would submit its report to their house on China’s One Belt, One Road initiative and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) analysing its different aspects.

“We would be submitting our report after analysing if this initiative is Chinese regional hegemonic agenda or a step towards greater regional connectivity,” said Pascal Allizard – head of French Senate delegation – on conclusion of their tour to China, Hong Kong and Pakistan.

Members of French senate and French National Assembly led by Pakistan-France Parliamentary group head Jean-Bernard Sempastous had a detailed interaction with reporters at French Embassy.

CPEC could develop into Pakistan’s debt trap

Detailed report of their talks with Chinese as well as Pakistani authorities would be submitted to the French Senate in April 2018. In the report, a conclusion would be drawn between two different opinions on the CPEC.

“France enjoys close ties with China, but we feel the project may have consequences on the geo-political situation,” said Senator Pascal Allizard.

According to him, there are two opposite points of view about Chinese One Belt, One road initiative and the CPEC, its flagship project. One view is that China wants to promote its hegemonic designs through it. While, the other opinion is that it is for the regional connectivity and for the benefit of all, he said.
