KARACHI: A South district and sessions judge ordered on Tuesday to hold Khawar Burney's identification parade and sent four other accused in the case on a five-day police remand.

Setting aside the subordinate court's orders, the judge sent Khawar's security guard and three cousins on a police remand.  The prison authorities were ordered to handover Khawar, Hassan Burney, Haider Hussain Burney, Raza Burney and security guard Abdur Rehman to the investigation officer.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor, Abdul Qadir Memon, completed his arguments. The prosecutor argued that the subordinate court had no authority over the district and sessions court. He also argued that refusal of police remand of the accused was against the law.

Guns and egos — the Karachi dilemma

In a statement, the investigation officer said more evidence was needed to examine the matter and police remand of the suspects was necessary to obtain information for the arrest of other suspects. Accepting the arguments, the court annulled the subordinate court's order which had earlier refused to hold an identity parade of the main accused and remand of the other four suspects.
