So much so was the reaction from the opposition parties that the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly had suspended its routine agenda for the day to open the floor for debate on the security situation in the province after an adjournment motion was moved by Qaumi Watan Party’s (QWP) Sikandar Sherpao.
He started the debate by expressing his concerns over the absence of senior officials of the K-P Home and Tribal Affairs Department in the officers’ gallery and the empty seats on the government side.
“The federal and provincial government have diverted their attention from the security situation and have focused on other issues,” he said expressing his fear over the worsening law and order situation.

He called for implementing the National Action Plan (NAP) in letter and spirit and for checking the effectiveness of policies adopted to curb militancy.
“Since militants are changing their strategies, we too need to check whether we need to make changes in the NAP. We have to check whether we are implementing the NAP in letter and spirit,” he said.
Sherpao sarcastically asked whether the government is waiting for more such attacks to happen before adopting a proactive approach. “We need to check the loopholes in our strategy. Was it an intelligence failure? Because few days before this incident AIG Ashraf Noor was martyred.”
He also spoke on the role of politicians to counter the militant ideology.
Pakistan Peoples Party lawmaker Nighat Orakzai was outraged by the emergence of banned outfits under new names and trying their hand at politics. Orakzai criticised the federal government for its failure in taking action against them.
