‘Theft of property’ irks staffers at Sector G-6/3 college

Letter was written to CADD, FDE and FIA to investigate matter

ISLAMABAD: Staffers from the Islamabad College for Boys in Sector G-6/3 have written an ‘anonymous’ letter to the authorities of the capital, demanding an inquiry into an alleged theft of college property.

The letters, written to the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD), Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), Prime Minister’s Complaint Cell, Public Accounts Committee (PAC), and the Federal Investigation Agency accuse the college’s principal and administration officer of stealing the institution’s property.

Written on Tuesday, the letter alleges that on Sunday (December 3) afternoon, between 12pm and 2pm, around six vehicles arrived at the college. They were loaded with college property including textbooks, library books, furniture, computers, and computer monitors and shifted out.

It is important to mention here that the textbooks were provided by the National Book Foundation for schoolchildren free of cost.

The letter further states the college has been long plagued with financial irregularities, so much so that the matter has been brought up in the PAC and government audit reports.

“Vehicles transported college property out of the college amounting to loss worth millions, but the security cameras were deliberately turned off,” the letter repeated. “This time, luckily, some of the cameras were working and recorded the plunder,” it added.

The footage, the staffers pleaded, can be retrieved for use as evidence.

The staffers have also requested the authorities to conduct a high-level inquiry as soon as possible since the memory of the security cameras is wiped after 10 days.

The letter adds that when the college’s principal Rafiq Sandelvi was asked about the matter, he insisted on selling ‘college scrap’. However, staffers said that there was no proof of any tender regarding the sale of the scrap.

Meanwhile, FDE Director General Hasnat Qureshi said that he did not know whether any such letter had been written and will have to check whether any such letter has been sent to the directorate.
