Police chalk out security plan for processions

Rescue 1122 has finalised arrangements for providing emergency cover on the occasion

LAHORE: Lahore Police have prepared a comprehensive plan to provide security to the processions and gatherings on the occasion of Eid Miladul Nabi.

The plan was prepared during a meeting of senior police officers at Qila Gujjar Singh on Thursday. The meeting was chaired by Capital City Police Officer Amin Wains. DIG Investigation Chaudhry Sultan, DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf, Chief Traffic Officer SSP Rai Ijaz Ahmad, SSP Operations Muntazir Mehdi, SSP Discipline Tariq Aziz, SSP Investigation Ghulam Mubashir Maken, all operations and investigations SPs, SP Security Muhammad Nadeem, SP Mujahid Faisal Shahzad, SP Headquarters Atif Nazir, SP CIA Nadeem Abbas and all the divisional SPs were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Capital City Police Officer Lahore Captain (retd) Muhammad Amin Wains said at least 15,000 police officials will perform security duties on the occasion. He ordered all the SPs, DSPs and SHOs to closely coordinate with the administration of different programmes and ceremonies of Eid Miladun Nabi and prepare a plan with their cooperation.

He said all the mosques and Imam Bargahs have been divided into three categories A, B and C, according to their sensitivity. Dolphin squad personnel and PRU will ensure effective patrolling around sensitive mosques and important roads of the city. Lahore Police will provide foolproof security arrangements to every procession of Eid Miladun Nabi, CCPO said.

According to the plan, participants would be allowed entry after thorough checking at three points. Police vehicles will escort processions at head and tail and another team would move with the procession and close the roads and streets on the route of the procession. Wains resolved to ensure foolproof security on the occasion of Eid Miladun Nabi.

Speaking on the occasion, DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf said police would monitor all sensitive processions through CCTV cameras. “Police are working in close coordination with the district administration and the administration of processions. All security plans have been finalised with their consultations.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Rescue 1122 has also finalised the arrangements to provide emergency cover on the occasion of Eid Miladun Nabi. The plan was prepared during a meeting of Rescue officers at Thokar Niaz Beg. The meeting was presided over by Rescue 1122 Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer.

Under the plan, over 9,000 rescuers would be deployed to perform duties in three shifts across Punjab. The Provincial Monitoring Cell, in its briefing to the Rescue 1122 DG, said 825 ambulances, 215 fire vehicles, 64 rescue vehicles, 14 specialised vehicles and 655 motorcycle ambulances would remain alert during Eid Miladun Nabi.

On the occasion, Naseer directed all the DEOs (district emergency officers) to ensure comprehensive emergency medical cover to the gatherings, processions and rallies. To this end, the days off of rescuers were also restricted and they had been assigned special emergency duties.

As per contingency plans, emergency cover shall be provided to main processions with mobile rescue posts along with fully equipped emergency vehicles including rescue ambulances, fire tenders and specialised vehicles.

Furthermore, coordinated liaison has also been developed with key focal persons of processions and gatherings. All the DEOs have finalised mapping of all the events and routs processions, Naseer was told.

Imambargah attack: Police clueless about assailants

Under the emergency plan, rescue personal shall also remain in close coordination with other related agencies and services in the control room established in the districts and Provincial Monitoring Cell (PMC) and trained doctors shall supervise the arrangements on the day.

The Provincial Monitoring Cell of Rescue 1122 shall also remained operational round-the-clock for monitoring of all districts and to provide directions; assistance and logistic support in case of any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA) Lahore will also conduct surveillance of the processions of Eid Miladun Nabi. A spokesperson for PSCA said three operational commanders, two senior supervisors and nine supervisors would perform duties in three shifts. Three teams comprising of 75 police communication officers have been deputed for surveillance of the main procession.

As many as 173 CCTV cameras have been installed for monitoring of the main procession. The spokesperson further said that a PSCA mobile command centre and two vehicles of Police Response Unit would also move along the procession for monitoring purposes. Live monitoring at head and tail of the procession will be conducted through LTE handsets.
