Recycling: Cartons used to make roofing sheets

KARACHI: A local recycling company has initiated production of Poly-Al (polyethylene and aluminium) fabrication sheets, called tuff boards, from used Tetra Pak beverage cartons, says a press release. Tuff boards can be used as roofing sheets and are designed to replace traditional wooden, metal and medium-density fibre-board sheets, owing to their low cost and strength, it said. This sheet costs less than Rs45 per square feet, offering an economical roofing solution for a wide range of applications. Within the first month of its operations, the company received response from dairy farms, new plants, offices and housing complexes. In 2010, over 30 billion of Tetra Pak’s cartons were recycled worldwide, the release added. PRESS RELEASE
