ISLAMABAD: Signaling an apparent shift in momentum, the apex anti-corruption watchdog has set its sights on the ‘big fish’.

This was stated by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (retired) Javed Iqbal while addressing a ceremony to distribute recovered money to 175 affectees of nine different housing societies and government departments at the body’s headquarters on Wednesday.

Justice Iqbal termed corruption a curse and that fighting it was tantamount to waging jihad. He added that though evil forces seem to be powerful, they do not have any solid footing on the ground.

Reiterating his firm resolve that NAB would apprehend the mighty, the bureau’s chairman said that out of the 179 mega corruption cases under process, NAB has filed 96 corruption references in the relevant accountability courts.

The remaining cases, he said, would soon be steered to their logical conclusion, reiterating that the anti-corruption watchdog will focus on taking action against the ‘big fish’.

Justice Iqbal said that various cooperative and private housing societies have neither allotted plots to investors including the financially disadvantaged, widows, government pensioners and orphans nor have they returned the hard-earned money of these people who are already running from pillar to post for justice and their money.
