BB murder case: LHC extends detention of accused

The accused had recently been acquitted and shifted from Rawalpindi to Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail

LAHORE: A three-member provincial review board led by Justice Abdul Sami Khan of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday extended 90 days detention of the five accused who had recently been acquitted of the murder charges of the former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

The Punjab government had filed a petition contending the accused had been detained under 16 MPO praying the court that the detention of the aforementioned be extended for further period.

The counsel for the government implored the court that 90 days be extended in their detention. The board accepting the plea of the government extended the detention period.

The accused had been acquitted recently in Benazir Bhuto’s murder case and then they were shifted from Rawalpindi to Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail. The accused who were brought to LHC included Hussain Gull, Rafaqat Hussain, Rasheed Ahmed, Aitzaz Shah and Sher Zaman.
