
Apart from upgrading the system in settled sectors, the plan will see the new system installed in the sectors which are still being developed and those which will be developed in the future.
The capital’s population had more than doubled in the past 20 years. According to the population housing census released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics, the population in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) had ballooned to 2.07 million in the past 20 years, up from just 805,235 in 1998 with an average annual growth rate of 4.91 per cent.
“Municipalities around the world focus on sewerage system operations and uplift,” said Islamabad Mayor and Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Sheikh Anser Aziz while chairing a monthly review meeting of the sewerage system in the city.
The meeting was held at CDA Headquarters and was attended by senior officers of the IMC.
“The incumbent Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) administration has worked out a plan for maintaining and upgrading the sewerage system.
“All the drains in the city are now cleaned regularly. New sewerage pipelines wherever required are being laid in the city, while work for upgrading and expanding the sewerage treatment plant is also in progress,” the mayor added.
The meeting was told that 89 complaints had been received during the month of October regarding different issues pertaining to the sewerage system in the city. These complaints had been referred the respective departments for redress.
Further, the meeting was told that the complaints were processed for resolving issues of the residents of the city promptly and efficiently.
Of the 89 complaints received, 46 complaints were promptly resolved while 29 others were still under process by the concerned formations.
Moreover, complainants have also been informed about the status of their complaints.
The complaints were received from different areas including sectors G-9/2, G-11/2, G-7/2, I-14/3, F-7/2, G-5, F-8/3, F-11/4, G-7/3, F-10/4, G-7/1, G-9/3, G-10/1, Alipur Farash, I-8/2, Shehzad Town, G-6/4, F-7/4, G-9/1, H-9, I-10/4, F-11/3, F-8/4, F-6/4, I-14/1, I-10/4, G-7 Markaz, G-6/4, G-6/1 and other areas.
