All educational institutions to remain closed today

ISLAMABAD: As protesters remain camped at the Faizabad interchange, all educational institutions in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi will remain closed on Monday.

A decision in this regard was taken by the administration of the twin cities to avoid any mishap and inconvenience to students and parents, as was witnessed on Saturday.

After the operation against protesters was launched early on Saturday morning, its fallout left many roads blocked, stranding students on the roads. In Rawalpindi, both public and private schools, colleges and institutes of higher learning, will remain closed for two days — November 27 and 28, according to the Punjab government’s school education department.

However, in Islamabad, most of the educational institutions have announced plans to remain shut for at least Monday.

The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), which oversees government-run schools and colleges in the federal capital, announced that all the 423 institutions which operate under it, will remain closed only on Monday.

On the other hand, private schools have announced that they too will remain closed on Monday. However, they added that a decision on reopening schools on Tuesday will be announced later, read a statement issued by the private schools in Islamabad.

Several universities in the twin cities have also rescheduled their exams apart from announcing to keep their campus shut.

The Allama Iqbal Open University, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Riphah University, Federal Urdu University, Quaid-i-Azam University, have announced that they will remain closed on Monday. The National University of Science and Technology (NUST) said that it will remain closed for two days.

The Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University has also postponed all postgraduate residency training interviews and undergraduate examinations due to the prevailing law and order situation in the country. The Postgraduate Residency Training Interviews of MS, MD, MDS, FCPS and Undergraduate Examinations of MBBS and BDS have also been postponed until further orders.
