LAHORE: Special Court Banking Offences Judge Abdul Rasheed on Monday dismissed a bail petition moved by PML-Q leader Moonis Elahi in the National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL) scam. Muhammad Iqbal Bhatti, counsel for Moonis, had filed a post-arrest bail application in the court. He had said that the FIA had no evidence against Elahi. He said that Elahi had been implicated in the scam on political grounds and had nothing to do with the scam. He said all the cases had been lodged against Mohsin Habib Warraich’s family. He pointed out that Warraich had submitted the Rs1.68 billion embezzled amount to the commerce secretary. He said since the entire amount mentioned in the FIR had been recovered, holding his client and implicating him in the scam was unreasonable. He requested the court to release Elahi on bail.
