PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Wednesday announced a housing scheme for government employees through bank home-finance.

The Khapal Kor Model Housing Scheme, Khattak said, will allow some 20,000 low-income government servants and over 200,000 members of the public and overseas Pakistanis to own their own houses at marginal rates.

This he said while addressing the balloting ceremony for allotting plots for government employees in the Jalozai Housing Scheme in Nowshera at the Chief Minister House in Peshawar.

Initially, the government will build houses on five marlas through bank home finance in Jalozai, Mulazai, Jerma and Dheri Zardad areas, the chief minister said. The first phase of the project will cost around Rs376 billion.

“This will be financed by the commercial banks which will then be paid back by the allottees in easy instalments spread over 20 years,” Khattak said as he expressed confidence that the housing scheme will not only be completed in time but will maintain international quality standards while providing all basic civic facilities.

The chief minister was told that around 8,626 plots of five marlas, seven marlas, 10 marlas and one Kanal have been developed in the Jalozai housing scheme, of which 3,757 plots were allotted through a draw around four years back. The remaining 3,793 plots have now been allotted through a fresh draw.

Moreover, a total of 4,553 applications were received through the Bank of Khyber (BoK) for this purpose of which 674 plots were allotted to government employees at a ratio of 23 per cent. The remaining 2,256 plots, or 77 per cent of plots, were allotted to the general public. A further 863 plots were specially allocated for overseas Pakistanis.
