COLOMBO:

Sri Lanka’s new captain Tillakaratne Dilshan wants to leave the event early to travel with the national team to England for their tour.

Dilshan is keen to join the squad when they fly to England on May 10, which means he would have to abandon his Royal Challengers Bangalore side three weeks before the tournament ends.

Sri Lanka Cricket last week allowed its IPL players to stay in India until May 18, rowing back on a request for them to return by May 5 to prepare for the tour.

Dilshan took over as the captain last week after Kumar Sangakkara quit following Sri Lanka’s defeat to India in the World Cup final.

Captain takes the lead

Meanwhile, Shane Warne grabbed three for 16 to help Rajasthan Royals beat Kochi Tuskers Kerala by eight wickets.

Rajasthan achieved a modest 110-run target, with openers Shane Watson (49) and Rahul Dravid (44) being the main run-getters. Parthiv Patel top-scored with 32 for Kochi, who suffered their third defeat in six matches.
