KARACHI: Thai-Pakistan Chamber of Commerce (TPCC) President Firdos Ali has underscored the need for initiating strong liaison between the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and TPCC to assist business communities of both countries in finding reliable partners.

“It has been observed in numerous cases that business deals have remained unsuccessful and Thai businessmen have been ‘robbed’ by some unscrupulous elements,” said Ali. “So, in order to effectively deal with this issue, close collaboration between the TPCC and KCCI is a must.” He made the remarks while exchanging views with KCCI office-bearers during a visit to the chamber.

Ali said Thai businessmen had been facing immense hardships in identifying right partners for business in Pakistan and the same must also be happening to the Pakistani business community looking to enhance trade with Thailand.

To deal with the problem, the TPCC president suggested that the KCCI should exchange information about reliable businessmen and the same would also be done by the TPCC in response to the KCCI’s inquiry about any Thai businessman.

It would ensure successful deals between business communities of the two countries, besides building confidence, reputation and image of Pakistan, the official added.

Commenting on a proposed free trade agreement (FTA), the TPCC president said the Thai business community was anxiously waiting for the deal. He was fairly optimistic that the much-awaited FTA would be inked in the next four to five months and it would prove beneficial for both sides.

Ali invited the KCCI to bring a delegation to Thailand and assured the chamber of his full assistance.

Speaking on the occasion, KCCI President Muffasar Atta Malik gave assurances that the KCCI would look into the possibility of sharing information about credible businessmen and industrialists in order to ensure businesses prosper and trade relations grow between the two countries.

In that regard, the KCCI had inked many memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with chambers of commerce around the world and it would look into the possibility of having a similar MoU with the TPCC as well which would help find right business partners, he added.
