QUETTA: Three suspected militants were killed on Friday in an operation conducted by law-enforcement agencies in Zarghoonabad area of Nawan Killi, a day after a senior police officer was martyred in the provincial capital, along with two other policemen.

Security officials said the police, Frontier Corps and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) conducted the search operation late Thursday night after receiving a tip-off about the presence of rogue elements in Zarghoonabad.

DIG Telecommunication Hamid Shakeel Sabir along with ASI Ramzan Muhammad Hasani and constable Jalil Ahmed Kurd were martyred on Thursday when a suicide bomber struck his convoy.

A senior security official said security forces faced stiff resistance when they reached the site where the militants were holed up, adding, they hurled a hand-grenade and opened indiscriminate fire on the security forces.

The operation continued for more than two hours, resulting in the killing of three militates who were hiding in the compound.

“Three terrorists were killed by the security forces in the gun battle,” the senior security official said, adding that they belonged to a banned extremist organisation.
