MQM-P leaders refuse to leave behind party's name, election symbol

Perturbed over the alliance with PSP, most of the leaders said they will abandon politics if MQM's name is changed

A large number of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leaders have refused to leave behind their party name and the election symbol after the latest alliance with Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP), Express News reported on Thursday.

After speculations lasting for few, MQM-P and PSP had announced on Wednesday a political alliance, joining hands under “one manifesto, one symbol and one party” for the general elections in 2018.

Perturbed over the recent decision, party leaders Amir Khan, Ali Raza Abidi, Shabbir Qaim Khaani, and MQM spokesperson Aminul Haq have said they will not abandon the party name come what may after the recently formed alliance.



According to reports, the leaders said they will part ways with politics if MQM’s name is changed to some other party.

MQM spokesperson, Aminul Haq, stayed away from party’s meeting and the press conference and has said that after a power show on November 5 in Karachi, it was irrational to form an allaince.



Party’s deputy convener, Shahid Pasha, has presented his 24-point resolution against the decision that asked for calling a general workers conference immediately and holding intra-party elections. The resolution observed that decisions taken by a few cannot be imposed on the whole party and that the incumbent Rabita Committee be dissolved to resolve the matter.

Meanwhile, MQM-P’s coordination committee decided to hold an urgent huddle in order to control the situation.
