School timing revised due to smog

The schoolteachers of the province had asked the government to revise school timing

LAHORE: All schools in Punjab have been instructed to follow revised timing due to the continuing smog in the province through a notification issued by the Punjab School Education Department (SED) on Tuesday.

According to the notification, all public and private sector educational institutions in Punjab had been directed to observe school timings from 9am to 2:30pm from Monday to Thursday and on Saturdays. On Friday, the notification directed the school timings would be from 9am to 12:15pm.

It said that in view of intense smog prevailing for the last few weeks in the province, the competent authority had decided to observe revised timing in public and private educational institutions with immediate effect. SED Secretary Dr Allah Bakhsh Malik issued a formal notification in this regard on Tuesday.

Earlier, the SED directed schools to observe health advisory issued to the public by the Punjab Health Department in view of the increasing health-related problems caused by the thick cover of smog. The schoolteachers of the province had also asked the government to revise school timing.
