During the past few days, approximately 30,000 pilgrims have been escorted under tight security from Quetta to Taftan, the Pak- Iran border, covering 700 kilometers.
Provincial government is spending a huge amount to ensure safe transportation of pilgrims while personnel of Police, Levies and Frontier Corps are tasked to provide security to pilgrims’ caravans.
According to Provincial Home Department, about 1,500 pilgrims could be transported to Taftan from Quetta in one convoy, however, despite difficult circumstances, a large number of pilgrims were escorted to Taftan border.
More than 1,000 pilgrims stuck at Pak-Iran border
With only few days remaining for the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain, the transportation of more pilgrims seems to be difficult as the process of immigration at the Taftan border also takes time.
A large number of pilgrims belong to Gilgit-Baltistan who reach Taftan via Zhob and Quetta. In this regard Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri contacted Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman on phone and discussed affairs related to pilgrims transportation.
Whereupon, Gilgit-Baltistan chief minister agreed with Zehri’s stance and said that he would request pilgrims to review the situation before travelling towards Taftan border. He thanked Balochistan Chief Minister for providing tight security to pilgrims.
