ATC awards 13-year jail term to two convicts for attacking police

Accused instigated protesters to pelt stones at policemen

MULTAN/ SARGODHA: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) awarded 13 years rigorous imprisonment to two convicts on charge of attacking a police party at Jalalpur Pirwala in 2015.

The judgment was announced by ATC Judge Malik Khalid Mahmood.

The prosecution told the court that on April 29, 2015, a crowd was staging protest and had blocked the road in Jalalpur Pirwala Tehsil of Multan. When a police party reached the spot, the people started hurling stones at them on the instigation of accused Amir s/o Iqbal and Aamer s/o Faiz Bakhsh.

As a result of the attack, a police vehicle was damaged and many people were injured. The accused also manhandled policemen and snatched their cellphones and cash. They also tried to snatch the official rifle from a police constable.

After hearing arguments, the judge awarded five-year rigorous imprisonment to the accused under section 7 of ATA, two years under section 337-L(ii)/34 PPC, two years under section 337-A(i)/34, one year under section 337-F(i)/34, one year under section 342/34, two years under section353/34 and three months under section 186/34.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs29,500 on the convicts. They were also ordered to pay Rs20,000 each to the injured people. However, the judge ordered acquittal of fourteen co-accused giving them the benefit of doubt. They were identified as Umar Daraz, Ramzan, Shah Muhammad, Riaz Ahmad, Zafar Ali, Umar Ali, Mushtaq, Liaquat, Iqbal, Asghar, Allah Rakha, Sajid, Pervaiz Ahmad, and Shakir.

Life and death sentence

A court awarded death sentence and life term to an accused for his involvement in a murder case in Sargodha.

The judgment was announced by Additional Sessions Judge Javed Iqbal Ranjha. The prosecution told the court that accused Muhammad, resident of Shahpur Saddar, and his accomplice Mubashir Baluch had killed their rivals Sikandar Bashir and Abul Hassan over an old enmity on November 29, 2009.

After hearing the arguments, the judge handed down death sentence and life term to Ramzan along with a fine of Rs500,000 as compensation money. The court also ordered the arrest of the other co-accused Mubashir.

Earlier in 2017, a court awarded death sentence to a murder convict and life term to two others for their involvement in a murder case in Sargodha. Convict Muhammad Ramzan and his companions had gunned down Mehr over a property dispute in 2015.
