18th Amendment: K-P ready for HEC devolution, says minister

Provincial Higher Education Commission would be introduced in the province to replace the HEC.

PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Minister for Higher Education Qazi Mohammad Asad told the Provincial Assembly on Thursday that a Provincial Higher Education Commission would be introduced in the province to replace the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

He said the council would be an autonomous body and no one would be allowed to interfere in its matters. He said that the provincial government will sanction funds for the council in its budget.

Assuring that the provincial government will follow the principles adopted by Dr Attaur Rehman for the HEC, he noted that the provincial government had sanctioned Rs240 million for PhD students in its budget for the current financial year.

The Provincial Minister added that the total budget of the HEC was Rs44 billion, out of which Rs5 billion was sanctioned for K-P.

He said that the provincial government is ready for the transfer of HEC to the province.
