G-B marks 70 years of liberation war victory

PESHAWAR: The 70th edition of the Ascension Day of the Gilgit-Baltistan was observed with great zeal across the region. On November 1, 1947 people of G-B gained freedom from Dogra Raj without any outside assistance and joined Pakistan.

In this regard special programmes were arranged to celebrate this day in all districts of Gilgit-Baltistan.

One of the most important programmes was held in Chinar Bag Gilgit, where Governor G-B Mir Ghazenfer and Chief Minister Hafeezur Rehman were the chief guests. G-B Force Commander Saqib Mehmood Malik, Chief Secretary Kazim Niyaz, members of G-B Legislative Assembly and people belonging to different walks of life were also present on the occasion.

Flag hosting ceremony was also held on the occasion. CM G-B hoisted the national flag. Governor, CM and force commander laid floral wreath on Yadgar Shudha Chinar Bagh. On the occasion the governor said: “our forefathers led us to independence from Dogra Raj 69 years ago and today we are proud Pakistanis.”

On November 1, 1947 people of Gilgit-Baltistan fought a brave war with huge and powerful Dogra army, without any assistance and won it. Since November 1947 we are Pakistanis and love it. Now we stand with our Pak Army against the enemy,” he added.
