University of Kent offers scholarships to outstanding students

Dean Dr Manning hopes GCU students will actively contest for the opportunities

LAHORE: University of Kent Internationalisation Dean Dr Anthony Manning visited the Government College University (GCU) in Lahore on Tuesday to explore the possibilities for research and academic collaboration between the two institutes.

Dr Anthony Manning met GCU Lahore Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah and discussed bilateral cooperation in areas of student and staff exchange, joint research projects, dual degree programmes and scholarship opportunities for Pakistani students in the UK.

GCU Faculty of Engineering Dean Prof Dr Riaz Ahmed, Faculty of Languages Dean Prof Dr Iqbal Shahid, Academic Planning and External Links Director Fouzia Shaheen, Assistant Director Ammarah Batool and University of Kent Country Advisor Saad Wasim also attended the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Manning said that the University of Kent ranked among the top 20 universities of the UK and was offering five dedicated scholarships of £20,000 to academically outstanding Pakistani students. These achieving students would be able to study postgraduate programmes in Science, Computing, Engineering and Digital Arts, Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science. He hoped that GCU students would actively contest for the scholarships.

Dr Manning also showed keen interest in joint research projects with GCU faculty in the fields of Biotechnology, Physics, Mathematics, History, English Literature and Psychology.

A century later: Govt to declare Government College Hyderabad a university

GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Hassan Shah briefed the visiting dean about the university’s ongoing research projects, international linkages and recently launched international Split PhD programme by PHEC for GCU students. He also invited the University of Kent senior faculty members for conducting short-term training workshops for the faculty members of the university.
