Five-day anti-polio drive from Oct 30

Special teams have also been formed to cover areas from where complaints of vaccination refusal have been registered

RAWALPINDI: A five-day anti-polio drive would commence in the entire Rawalpindi district from October 30, said Acting Commissioner Talat Mehmood Gondal.

During the campaign, 2,181 mobile teams would visit door-to-door and administer anti-polio drops to 829,000 children less than five-year old, Gondal said.

He said staff deployed for the campaign has been issued special instructions and told that no negligence in this regard would be tolerated. The DC said that 287 fixed centres and 287 transit points have been designated for the inoculating the children against the crippling disease.

Moreover, he added that 217 union council supervisors and 448 area in-charges have also been deployed for the vaccination drive.

Sufficient quantity of vaccine and motivated human resource is available to make the polio vaccination campaign a success.

Ties with US ‘not to affect’ anti-polio drive

Talat urged the citizens, particularly the parents, to come forward and play their role for the elimination of the crippling disease from society. “The parents should cooperate with the special teams so that the set target could be achieved through continuous efforts being made to control polio,” he said.

Special teams have also been formed to cover areas from where complaints of vaccination refusal have been registered, Gondal said, adding that special arrangements have also been made to cover cantonment areas of Rawalpindi.
