LAHORE: The Jamat-e-Islami demanded of the government to take action against the administration of the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WLCA) for its poor performance.

JI’s parliamentary leader Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar submitted an adjournment motion in Punjab Assembly on Saturday after a report was published in a newspaper. He said the authority was established several years ago but it has failed to come up with construction rules as mud is being used to renovate buildings.

“The authority has been demanding funds in the name of restoration of archaeological buildings and has not deposited money in the national exchequer,” he said. He added that countries that had given funding to the WLCA also have strong reservations over the authority’s performance.

He implored the authority has been working for a long time but it has failed to make a legislation to renovate archaeological buildings.“It has failed to restore the old beauty of the old city.”

He also expressed his apprehension over the conduct of the concerned department for hiding the inquiry report. “The officials of the authority are making money through restoration of the old city as some influential people have occupied the national heritage.”

The authority is not doing anything for the preservation and restoration of archaeological buildings but it is a burden on the national treasury, he said. He added that those who love archaeological buildings are very much disappointed with the authority’s performance.
