Tall claims: 'People will take to the street if another NRO is imposed'

Imran Khan says his party will not accept efforts to protect corruption of Punjab CM

KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson Imran Khan said on Monday that his party would not accept another National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) in the Hudaibiya scam where efforts are afoot to save the Punjab chief minister.

"People living in Pakistan will come on the roads if someone tries to impose another NRO as was done in Musharraf's tenure to rescue corrupt politicians and terrorists," said Imran during his visit to Karachi.

He said there was concrete evidence against the Punjab chief minister and his other co-accused in the Hudaibiya Paper Mill scam. "We demand that the Supreme Court initiate an inquiry into it," he said.

The PTI leader criticised Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari and the Sindh government, saying, "I warn Zardari that his days are now numbered and it is high time he is made accountable." Imran said that after Nawaz Sharif, the time has come to question Zardari and his sister, MNA Faryal Talpur, for deteriorating Sindh.

"In the joint investigation team report, Uzair Baloch has exposed Zardari and his company by leveling serious allegations," he said, adding that from sugar mills to bungalows evacuated forcibly in front of Bilawal House, the allegations must be probed.

"Corruption is a big issue confronted by Pakistan and it has pushed the country back towards the worst condition," Imran said.
"I am sorry to say that public money, which is supposed to be spent on education and health, is being sent abroad through money laundering," he said, referring to the example of former Sindh information minister Sharjeel Imam Memon, who according to Imran, has bungled billion of rupees and sent the money to Dubai and other countries. "Today, I welcome the National Accountability Bureau's action to arrest him."



The PTI leader also came down hard on Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and his government and said, "Unfortunately, the corrupt individuals are occupying top offices." He added that in Pakistan, people sitting on the post of prime minister or chief ministers only have an agenda to mint money. "No one seriously thinks about bringing a change," he said.

The PTI chairperson said politics of reconciliation and deals will not be accepted anymore since the entire nation is against the corrupt mafia. "We will see them in jail," he said.

Imran also pointed out the flaws in the current government and stated that Pakistan's foreign policy is incomprehensible and the people don't understand the direction it is taking.



The PTI chief said his party seeks an early election so all these problems can be swiftly dealt with. "Free, fair and early elections are the best way to deal with the country's current condition," he said.
Imran also stated that any political party that shows an affiliation with Altaf Hussain should be disqualified and not be allowed to participate in the elections. "Muttahida Qaumi Movement can only prosper and succeed if they separate themselves from Hussain as he has openly spoken against the state of Pakistan," he added.

"If any political party in India showed sympathy or support towards a figure who openly supported Pakistan - they would have never been allowed to participate in the elections and Pakistan needs to adopt such a style."

'Go Zardari Go'

While addressing the business community in Karachi, Imran quoted his government's performance in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and said, "We will resolve the business community's problems when we come to power."

He said that his party has decided to convene a big public gathering at Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi tomorrow (December 25), which will be a big show in the history of the city

Karachi was once a clean city, but PPP has turned it into a city of garbage, he said. "During my initial days in cricket, when I visited Bombay, it was an unhygienic city and Karachi was the city of lights.

Its roads and streets were clean, but the incumbent government has totally ruined it," he said, adding that street crime has made the lives of people miserable and police is politicised in Sindh.

"We have brought reforms in police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Everyone is appreciating it and the same system will be introduced in Sindh," he said.
