A day after the Sindh governor was denied entry into the house of Maryam Nawaz’s son-in-law in Islamabad when he came to see her, Muhammad Zubair said the incident had been “blown out of proportion” by the media.

On Thursday, the Sindh governor had left in a huff after the security staff at the residence of Chaudhry Munir, the son-in-law of deposed premier Nawaz Sharif’s daughter, refused to let him in.

In the video clip aired on Express News, Governor Zubair could be seen standing along with personal staff outside the gate and trying unsuccessfully to hide his embarrassment.

“Yesterday’s incident was blown out of proportions,” Zubair told reporters in Karachi on Friday. “It was my mistake. I went to visit [Maryam] without security staff,” he said, adding that he did not like to travel with his security staff in tow.

Zubair said he had to wait outside the house because “there were a lot of people there”. However, he wouldn’t say if the people had gathered at the gate before or after his arrival.

After she got to know about the incident, Maryam had reportedly intervened and reprimanded the security staff for not letting the governor in. She had also called up Zubair and asked him to visit the house again.
