LAHORE:

A judge on Wednesday directed a prisoner to take his application for a torture case against jail officials to the Kot Lakhpat station house officer (SHO) along with a medical certificate of his injuries.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Musharraf Hassan Sumra also directed the Kot Lakhpat SHO to act according to law and disposed of the petition.

Dr Faheem Raza had sought a case under Sections 337 F(i) and F(ii) against Jail Superintendent Mushtaq Awan, Deputy Shabraiz Chaudhry, Medical Officer Dr Nauman, warder Shabbir Shakir and two unnamed prisoners.

Dr Raza, who is in prison for cheque fraud, says that at the end of Ramazan, he found parts of a human hand in his food. He says the jail authorities tried to stop him speaking about it, but he refused. He says he was then locked up in a cell and drugged and the deputy superintendent pulled out his toenails. He says he was also starved and deprived of sleep for several days.
