Event highlights natural disasters and their different categories

LAHORE: The Department of Environmental Sciences of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore observed International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction on Thursday at the varsity’s City Campus.

The Society for Conservation of Environment and Nature (SCEN) arranged a walk and seminar to mark the day to create awareness regarding the measures to be taken in order to cope with natural disasters.

Awareness stressed to tackle natural disasters

UVAS Vice Chancellor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha led the walk while UVAS Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Nasim Ahmad, Faculty of Biosciences Dean Dr Habib-ur-Rehman, Department of Environmental Sciences Chairman Dr Saifur Rehman Kashif and a number of students and faculty members participated in the event.

Later in the seminar, Flood Forecasting Division Lahore Chief Meteorologist Muhammad Riaz delivered a lecture to UVAS students in which he spoke about natural disasters, their different categories and explanatory discussion on basic principles of initiation of different natural disasters.

He also talked about the technologies which were currently deployed in the world to reduce the impacts of all natural disasters and its implementations in Japan regarding earthquake resistant buildings and high level of public awareness about personal safety in case of earthquake.
