
Women-only Cambridge college to accept transgender students
He said the public sector schools and colleges in Islamabad were a preferred choice of the parents. Now students from private educational institutions were getting admission in federal government institutions in large numbers, he added.
He said every effort was being made by the Federal Directorate of Education to impart quality education and create conducive, safe and secure environment to the students in the educational institutions.
The minister said the present government had recently initiated the Prime Minister’s Education Reforms Programme (PMERP) with main focus on uplifting of the standard of educational institutions in Islamabad. In the first phase, some 22 institutions had been upgraded by providing missing facilities, including additional classrooms, well equipped labs, playgrounds, clean drinking facility, toilet rooms, teachers training etc, he added. He said in the second phase renovation and rehabilitation of physical infrastructure of 200 educational institutions was in process costing Rs2.74 billion while in the third phase, the remaining institutions would be upgraded, whose cost estimation was being done through project director (phase II) of PMERP.
He said to address the transport issue a comprehensive scheme for the provision of 200 buses and 30 coasters had been initiated in the educational institutions of ICT under PMERP. In the first phase, 70 buses had been handed over to educational institutions whereas the remaining 130 would be provided in the second phase.

Tariq said Montessori classes had been established in 71 institutions. Some 226 computers labs with allied facilities were being set up in educational institutions for girls. It would provide equitable opportunities to excel and to spread the benefitsof the telecom revolution to students in ICT, he added.
