It Runs In The Family: Ayesha Farook And Samira Faisal Khan

Published: October 10, 2017

Ace designer Ayesha Farook and her sister Samira Faisal Khan talk sisterhood, from jumping off roofs together as children, to the strong bond they share today

What’s your first memory of each other?

Ayesha: Sam has always stood up for and protected me and that’s one of my earliest memories.

Samira: My first memory is when we were in nursery and Ayesha was being bullied by two boys, I stepped in and beat them up.

What is the craziest thing you have done together?

Ayesha: So many, but the most traumatising was when she asked me to stuff pomegranate up my nose saying it’ll be fun. It really wasn’t! 911, it was.

Samira: Jumping off the roof of the patio onto the garden at the age of five.

What did you get punished for the most as a child?

Ayesha: I rarely got punished but if I did, I’d run straight to our mother’s expensive vase and put my finger on it pretending to topple it if she came any closer. Of course, one day I did tip it over. A well-deserved whack it was!

Samira: Swinging off curtains always got me into trouble.

If you could only wear one piece of clothing from the others closet, for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Ayesha: Sam’s gorgeous fur coat! Would have gunned for her shoes but they don’t fit (lucky for her).

Samira: If only her clothes would fit…

If you could swap places with each other, what’s the first thing you would do?

Ayesha: Get rid of her fuzzy winter Elmo nightsuit (she’s going to kill me).

Samira: Rearrange Ayesha’s closet, colour coordinate and systemise.

What is the one thing you love about your sibling?

Ayesha: Her selfless nature.

Samira: Her patience.

If you are fighting with each other, how do you make up?

Ayesha: We never fight. True story!

Samira: We argue and disagree on many things and talk it out but don’t fight.

What is the one secret talent your sibling has, that you wish you did too?

Ayesha: Her ability to be so selfless and put everyone’s interests and needs before herself.

Samira:  She can spot a good deal from a mile away!

Describe your sibling in three words:

Ayesha: Super organised, generous, a rock for all who know her.

Samira: Naturally talented blonde.

Which fictional character is your sibling most like?

Ayesha: Monica from Friends and Mary Poppins.

Samira:  Rachel from Friends.

How are your personalities similar?

Ayesha: We share a love for food, travel, and the importance of family being above all and our crazy sense of humour.

Samira: For us, family means everything.

I can’t live without my brother/sister because…

Ayesha: She is my confidant, my best friend, a rock in every situation and because she makes me who I am today.

Samira: I can’t live without her because she is my partner in crime, my confidant, my travel buddy and much more. She is one of the most genuine, all round amazing people I know!
