Rescue 1122 provides first aid to 2,432 mourners in Pindi during Ashura

RAWALPINDI: The Punjab Emergency Service (PES), Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi remained on high alert on Ashura and provided first aid to 2,432 injured mourners and shifted 42 other to hospitals.

According to a statement, PES provided 24-hour emergency medical aid to the mourning processions in all tehsils of the Rawalpindi district.

Trained medical staff provided emergency treatment and stitched the cuts on the backs of people using bladed chains for self-flagellation. Those who had deep cuts were shifted to different hospitals.

Over 200 rescuers equipped with emergency kits were deputed at rescue stations, mobile posts and rescue key points to provide medical cover to different mourning processions.

Leaves of the rescuers were cancelled and special emergency duties on ambulances and mobile posts were assigned to them to effectively manage any emergency situation.

Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi also dealt with 35 emergencies, including 11 traffic accidents, 18 medical emergencies and three fire incidents on Muharram 10.

The PES Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer appreciating dedication of the rescuers said that they were working day and night to save human lives and reduce sufferings of the victims of emergencies.

Road crashes

A total of 15 road traffic crashes were reported in District Command and Control Room, Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi, during the last 24 hours. At least 19 people were injured in these accidents.

Responding to the emergencies, Rescue 1122 shifted 10 injured to different hospitals of Rawalpindi. However, nine victims, who sustained minor injuries, were provided first aid on the spot by emergency medical teams.

According to the data, 13 drivers, three pedestrians and three passengers were among the victims of these road traffic crashes.
