Flag march started from Pakistan Sports Complex and culminated at the same point after passing through Dhokri Chowk to Bhara Kahu Bazar and back on Murree Road. Frome there it went on to Third Road, Darbar Bari Imam, T-Cross, Radio Pakistan Chowk, NADRA Headquarters, Soharwardi Road, Aabpar Chowk and finally from Melody to Imambargah G-6/2 to Ali Masjid G-7/2 and Back to Pakistan Sports Complex.
SSP (Operations) Islamabad Sajid Kiani said Islamabad police have ensured detailed security arrangements for Muharram. He said that police would accomplish responsibility in an efficient manner to ensure protection to lives and property of citizens
SSP Kiani further said that purpose of this flag march was to show preparations of police and other law enforcement agencies during Muharram to counter any challenge and maintain peace in the city.
He also directed all the SDPOs and the SHOs to make effective security arrangements in this regard in their respective areas. He added that Islamabad police would maintain a close liaison with peace committees and organisers of Muharram majalis and processions.
Traffic management
Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has devised a special traffic plan for Muharram and decided to deploy more than 650 policemen on the various routes of processions to avoid any inconvenience to the road users.
SSP (Traffic) Malik Matloob said that he will personally monitor the arrangements while four DSPs and 21 inspectors will also perform duties to ensure smooth flow of traffic and guide the road users to alternative routes to avoid any inconvenience.
He said it is the top priority of ITP to provide maximum convenience to road users and avoiding any disturbance to the mourners and others too.
He has appealed to the general public to use alternative routes and cooperate with ITP personnel who will be deployed on various points to guide people.
