KARACHI:

Leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), including its chief Altaf Hussain, have condemned the targeted killings of their activists and urged the government to take immediate action against elements involved in such incidents.

Members of the MQM’s Rabita Committee expressed concern over the killings of at least 10 workers over the past four days.

They said that targeted killings of MQM workers “is a planned conspiracy against MQM by terrorists, who were also maligning the party by baseless media propaganda”.

Criticising the government for inaction, MQM lawmakers said that several of their activists had been murdered in New Karachi and elsewhere in the Sindh metropolis.

MQM leaders expressed grief over the death of a party’s activist from New Karachi, Ayub Raja, who was killed in Liaquatabad.

salahuddin | 13 years ago | Reply @ Maria .... MQM is not police nor law enforcement agency . all administration of sindh and karachi in the hands of peoples party & people who are enemy of karachi . by having NO control over police & agencies , how can you expect from MQM that this party is responsible for law & order . however , i must remind you that from 2000 to 2007 , karachi witnessed great peace only because Musharraf gave MQM authority & funds to bring change . every one remembers that this policy was right & MQM turned karachi in to city of lights & developement . karachi peace is guaranteed only if all administration of karachi including law enforcement agencies be given under MQM's control because only MQM is sincere & true with karachi & rest of pakistan.
Inqilabi | 13 years ago | Reply Unfortunately, Pakistan haven't experience a democracy yet. The politics in Pakistan is a vicious connection of ever-strong military establishment, corrupt politicians, influencial industrialist, corrput bureaucrats, etc. MQM is the only political force fighting agaist all these force alone. Whenever they try to spread, the establishment cripple their wings....to go defensive. We all witness the conspiracy theories against the MQM by the establishment but of no use. Recently when MQM again try to enter Punjab politics, the same establishment jumps in and try to creat hurdles in its way. The recent wake of target killings in Karachi aims to engaged the party in its base. Thats situations suits all....the sitting government, the friendly-opposition....the establishment....the bureaucracy, etc. I wish i could see a true democracy in Pakistan in my life time. The Only Solution. . . . . . Revolution!!
