PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao has rejected a call from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for snap election in country.

The QWP “is a staunch supporter of democracy” and “wants parliament to complete its constitutional term”, said Sherpao in a statement on Monday.

He said that democratic institutions needed to be strengthened for political stability and financial prosperity in the country “and hence, the QWP wants that the present government must complete its term”.

“This statement [from Imran Khan’s] reflects his political immaturity and the PTI doesn’t have any plan except for disturbing the system” Sherpao said, adding that it was an ‘unwise’ demand which, if accepted, would further alienate the democratic process in the county.

Imran Khan anticipates snap polls by year-end

“Due to his hasty acts, Imran Khan loses everything. He should learn from his mistakes that resulted in serious difficulties for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and the country, and should not repeat them,” he added.

The QWP chief said the PTI-led government had failed to deliver during the last four years despite its claims of change. “The PTI has obtained votes by making false commitments of bringing change in the province, but its leaders failed to do practical work in this regard,” he said.

He said the PTI could not bring any change in the lives of the people and the party chairman had admitted to incompetence and inability of his government in the province.

Sherpao said his party wanted the national and provincial assemblies to complete their term as the continuation of democratic process would ensure the provision of due share in national resources to all federating units.
