PEIRA launches fresh survey of schools, tuition, daycare centres

Chairman says after determining the total number of institutions, they will be registered

ISLAMABAD: The Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) has started a survey to determine the actual number of private schools, tuition and daycare centres operating in
the capital.

After determining the total number of institutions, they would be registered, said PEIRA Chairman Hasnat Qureshi on Sunday.

While speaking with APP, he said that as many as 1,200 schools in the federal capital have been registered with PEIRA, while the remaining schools are expected to be registered within a month.

He warned that unregistered institutions would be considered as illegal and legal action would be taken against facilities which opted not to register themselves
with PEIRA.

“Private schools, tuition and daycare centres, working in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) are bound to register themselves in PEIRA since they fall within the jurisdiction of the authority,” Qureshi said.

Talking about the survey launched by PEIRA, he said the authority had hired two employees on daily wages for three months.

Moreover, two employees had been taken from the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) of the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD).

These officials will travel across the Islamabad Capital Territory and note the presence of schools and tuition centres.
