PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has said that deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s party has not yet learned the art of running the government nor does it possess any know-how of ruling the country.

“This is a country not a public limited company … all countries face problems and hardships but they always rise again,” Zardari said while talking to media at the residence of PPP’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) President Engineer Humayun Khan on Sunday.

The PPP co-chairman said, “At present the country is facing numerous issues, but Mian Sahib’s party has no ability to resolve them”.

“It is only the PPP that will take the country forward,” Zardari promised hundreds of party workers who gathered at the residence of Khan where Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers from various union councils of the city joined the PPP. The new members included Asad Gulzar, son of late PTI member of National Assembly Gulzar Khan.

Senior party leaders Sherry Rehman, Farhatullah Babar and provincial leaders were present on the occasion. Ziaullah Afridi, who recently joined the PPP after leaving the PTI, was also present.

“With us, even brass turns into gold,” Zardari assured the newcomers. “But remember, those who leave the PPP turn back into brass.”

He added that the party respected and honoured workers and leaders at every level and it was their strength that was taking it forward. These workers had even faced imprisonment, he said.

While talking to the media after meeting party workers, Zardari said his party believed in politics for the welfare of people.

About K-P, Zardari said that there was still a lot to be done as the successive governments of Awami National Party (ANP) and now the PTI had failed to deliver in the province.

“We still have to do a lot more in K-P, which we couldn’t do during the rule of ANP,” Zardari said. “K-P has huge water resources to make its own electricity. It has all the natural resources, including oil and gas reserves, which need a lot of work.”
