Extra-curricular: Inter-regional competitions conclude at AIOU

21 students awarded prizes in separate categories.

Winners of the “All Pakistan Students Inter Regional Competition-2011” were awarded prizes in the three-day event’s concluding ceremony held here at the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) on Saturday.


Chief Guest AIOU Vice Chancellor Dr Nazir Sangi distributed awards among 21 students for performing exceptionally in speech, husn-e-qira’at, naat, essay writing and national song singing competitions. “The aim of the event was to provide a platform to students from both urban and remote areas to express themselves,” he said. Over 50 students, hailing from Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Sargodha, and Faisalabad, who had won in their cities, participated in the competition.

Azam Mushtaq from Karachi stood first in the English speech competition, while Saba Younus from Lahore and Madiha Umer from Faisalabad stood second and third respectively.

In Urdu Speech, Muhammad Waqas Bashir came in first, while Shamsa Jalal finished second and Ghaffar Ahmed third. In national song singing competitions, Muhammad Waseem Bashir from Rawalpindi got first position, while Mehreen Malik from Sargodha and Afshan Saddiqi from Karachi got second and third positions respectively.

For husn-e-qira’at competition, Muhammad Rajab Ali, Muhammad Bilal and Sadia Saeed received the first, second and third awards respectively. Subsequently in Naat contests, Muhammad Abdul Ghani stood first, while Sadia Akram and Sobia Andaleeb stood second and third respectively.

Syeda Nadia Raza from Islamabad got first position in the painting competition, following by Qisra Parveen and Khalid Hussain, who stood second and third respectively.

In the English essay writing competition, Saba Nasir Sindho from Gujranwala got first position, Ishrat Waris second and Saba Younus third.

Students admired AIOU’s efforts for hosting the inter-regional competitions and hoped that the university will host such events in the future as well.
