LAHORE: A chapter on social responsibility will be added to the mandatory behavioural sciences exam for MBBS students, a notification issued by the University of Health Sciences (UHS) vice chancellor said on Friday.

It said the students would be tested for social responsibility in the examination. In a letter sent to the heads of all medical colleges in the province, UHS VC Malik Hussain Mubbashar said that the recent protest strike by the Young Doctors Association had highlighted the need for including texts on social responsibility in the medical curriculum.

“The strike left many hospitals short-staffed and struggling to treat patients. Medical colleges need to prevent such a situation in future,” he said. He said the construction of a new UHS campus at Kala Shah Kaku was already underway, he added.
