PESHAWAR: K-P Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Tuesday approved a summary allowing a pharmaceutical company to supply free medicines for the treatment of four deadly diseases.

The government approved 15 medicinal products of Novartis Pakistan for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, type-2 diabetes, respiratory problems and breast cancer, the summary read.

The selection of medicines was made after taking into account three considerations – medical relevance, high demand and lack of access.

According to the summary, the objective is to offer a diverse set of treatment options for both proven and first-line treatments.

According to senior health officials, a meeting with the practitioners was held at the health department where they endorsed the decision to acquire the said medicines.

The participants were told that while the provision of medicines was free, the government will be paying for the setting up of dispensation centres and customised software the company will employ.
