Patari is an initiative that has undoubtedly made some valuable contributions to the music scene in Pakistan. While the app is portal of everything the Pakistani music industry can boast of, from hip-hop numbers  to classical melodies, their social media frequently features new compositions in folk music, uncovering hidden gems in different regions of the country.

A recent feature depicting the legendary Mai Dhai lending vocals to a Marwari folk song Baaja Re in Patari's venture Fanoos is what has grabbed our attention this time. Baaja Re, an exotic tune that captures the cultural milieu of Thar dessert, is a duet between the Kadi Ao Ni singer and her son Moharram Faqir.

Mai Dhai is a trained classical singer from Rajasthan who settled to Umerkot after partition and rose to fame in the urban centres after labels like Sketches & Lahooti Live Sessions and Coke Studio featured the singer in their shows.

Fanoos, a collaboration of Patari band Zohaib Kazi is a series that uncovers hidden talents in far-off regions in Pakistan and features compositions that do not make way into the realm of mainstream pop music.

Patari made a list of Pakistani songs copied by India and it's giving us nostalgia

All creations of Fanoos have been recorded and shot in different locations away from city diameters and Baaja Re is no different. Zohaib travelled to Umerkot to record the singers in their home so the video carries the aesthetics of the song's natural habitat.
