PESHAWAR: After merging her Awami National Party -Wali with the ANP, Begum Naseem Wali Khan and her grandson Lawangin Khan formally joined the party by signing its membership forms at Wali Bagh, Charsadda, on Friday.

“Now that the ANP-Wali has been merged into the ANP, all the party workers are requested to sign the ANP membership forms,” Begum Wali told reporters on the occasion.

Both ANP factions likely to reunite prior to 2018 polls

Both leaders expressed their determination to follow the rules and regulations of the ANP and the philosophy of Bacha Khan to serve the people of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in a better way.

ANP’s provincial general secretary Sardar Hussain Babak was also present.

Begum Wali said the philosophy of Bacha Khan provided the best solution to the current challenges faced by the nation.

Awami National Party: Where will the fork in the road lead?

“The ANP is an ideological party. We will work to protect its ideology against all the challenges,” she said.

Begum Wali, the widow of the late nationalist leader Abdul Wali Khan, had remained the provincial president of the ANP in the past. However, due to differences with the party leadership, she withdrew herself from politics and later formed her own faction, the ANP-Wali.

Last month, the leaders of both factions resolved their differences and decided to work under the ANP banner to promote Pakhtun unity.

“Her participation will further strengthen the party,” said Babak.  “Now she will play an important role in coping with the challenges faced by the nation.”

He said all workers of the ANP-Wali could become part of the ANP and contest the next elections from its platform by submitting applications for party tickets before September 15.
