The ACE officials said on Thursday that complainant Shagufta Rehman, a resident of Wazirpur, stated in her application that Sub-Inspector Muhammad Bashir Mangla of Sahiwal police station had registered a fake murder case against her husband and demanded Rs2 million bribe to acquit him. Shagufta claimed that she paid Rs530,000 to the police officer but he presented the challan in the court and did not return her money.

Similarly, in another case, the ACE Director ordered registration of a case against ASI Abdul Hameed of Bhakkar police station for taking Rs5,000 bribe for releasing a suspect. On the recommendations of inquiry officers Khurram Anwar and Muhammad Munir Badr, the ACE director ordered registration of cases against the said police officers.
