In memory of: SIUT remembers its former staffer

Athar Husain performed the first-ever dialysis at SIUT and rendered his services for 35 years at the institute

KARACHI: The staff and faculty members of the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) held a memorial meeting on Tuesday to pay tribute to a lead dialysis technician and former incharge of the SIUT dialysis unit, Athar Husain, who passed away recently.

As a technician, Husain performed the first-ever dialysis at SIUT and rendered his services for 35 years at the institute until his death.
Paying tribute to one of the pioneers of dialysis, SIUT Director Professor Adibul Hasan Rizvi said that Husain made immense contributions to the growth of dialysis at the institute. Rizvi said Husain was an integral part of the entire treatment process which was extended to dialysis patients over the years.

"The dedication and commitment of Husain was unparalleled," Rizvi said.

Recalling Husain's meritorious services, Rizvi said his legacy needs to be emulated by those who are in the profession of patient care.
Husain's colleagues and doctors of SIUT also paid rich tributes and recounted various aspects of his personality during a largely attended meeting.

Those who spoke on the occasion included Professor Ejaz Ahmed, Dr Buksh Ali, Dr Mudassar Abbas, Ms Shahnaz, Imran Ayub, Abid Ali and Agha Husain.
