ISLAMABAD: As many as 25 patients, who had tested positive for dengue, were admitted to different government hospitals of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Sunday.

According to hospital officials, 15 patients hailed from the rural areas of the capital, including Bara Kahu, Tarlai, Rawat and Sohan, while 10 cases were from the urban areas of the federal capital.

Dengue patients were admitted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Federal Government Poly Clinic (FGPC) in Islamabad and to the Holy Family Hospital and the Benazir Hospital in Rawalpindi.

As many as 10 patients who were admitted to the FGPC.

Keeping in view the current situation, the hospital administration has set aside beds for dengue patients.

Preventive measures

Hospital officials have advised residents of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad to take preventive measures against dengue.

The urged residents to properly dispose of solid waste and stop storing water at their residences to deny access to egg-laying female mosquitoes.

The advisory added that dengue viruses are transmitted to humans through the bites of female Aedes mosquitoes. These mosquitoes generally acquire the virus while feeding on the blood of an infected patient.
