Eight students among nine dead as train crashes into rickshaw in Lodhran
Police said that 17-year-old Sahil Omer, a resident of Police Lines, was travelling in Millat Express when he lost his balance and slipped from the footboard. As a result, he was crushed under the wheels of the train near Trust Plaza Building. The police shifted the body to the hospital for legal formalities.
Earlier in January this year, a train in Lodhran crashed into a motorised rickshaw, killing eight children and the rickshaw driver who were on their way to school, railway authorities said.

The children killed in the crash, in the south of Punjab province, were aged six to 10, District Police Officer Lodhran Asad Sarfraz said. He added that the gate at the crossing was open at the time of the accident, meaning traffic on the road could cross the railway tracks. According to the police personnel, the driver of Hazara Express and Gateman Fazal were arrested.
Last year in September, at least four people were killed and 93 injured when an express train crashed into a freight train near Multan. In November of the same year, 21 people were killed and dozens were injured when a train crashed into stationary coaches in the port city of Karachi.
