PARIS: At least one person was killed and another injured in the French port city of Marseille after a car crashed into two bus shelters, a French police source told Reuters on Monday.

The driver was arrested at the scene, the source added.

"At the moment we have no information on the motives of this individual," the source said.

Last week, 14 people were killed after two vehicle rampages saw drivers plough into pedestrians in Spanish cities of Barcelona and Cambrils, in a renewed wave of terrorist attacks in Europe.

The Daesh group claimed responsibility for the attack, saying the perpetrators had been responding to its call for action by carrying out Thursday´s rampage along Barcelona´s most famous avenue, which was thronged with holiday-makers enjoying an afternoon stroll at the peak of the tourist season.
