Electricity Supply Units: ‘New transformers to cut losses’
ISLAMABAD:
Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar on Tuesday informed the National Assembly that the government will procure new transformers that will help lower transmission losses and improve electricity supply, especially during the summer season.
He was responding to a query regarding the purchase of electric transformers by the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) at high rates.
There is a plan to replace all existing transformers with units having new specifications.
According to Pepco and other independent consultants, the new transformers will reduce transmission losses by 27 per cent in 200 KV transformers, and 23 per cent in smaller ones.
