Battling dengue: CS wants improved monitoring

Orders the Livestock secretary to take all possible measures for the prevention of Congo virus

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Secretary Capt (R) Zahid Saeed directed authorities to improve the mechanism for dengue monitoring and reporting. He was presiding over a video-link meeting on dengue control at the Civil Secretariat.

Addressing the meeting, the chief secretary said that keeping in view the situation in Peshawar, anti-dengue activities must be expedited throughout Punjab.

He told the health department that better patient management training be given to doctors of private hospitals. He said surveillance teams should carry out qualitative operation as it was more important than quantity.

He said that entomologists had been deployed in districts and more staff could be hired if required. The chief secretary directed deputy commissioners of Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and Multan to adopt a better strategy than last year when it comes to coping with the situation in 2017.

The CS ordered the Livestock secretary to take all possible measures for the prevention of Congo virus. He ordered that special teams of Livestock department be formed to spray animals.
