KARACHI:

Pakistan Muslim League Functional (PML-F) threatened to quit the coalition government if the census is not held under the supervision of army and paramilitary forces.

This was decided at Sindh Council meeting of the party held under supervision of Sadaruddin Shah Rashdi, President PML (F) Sindh.

The meeting was held at the house of Muzzafar Hussain Shah, leader of the party and former speaker Sindh Assembly, Jam Madad Ali, leader of the opposition in Sindh, Imitiaz  Shaikh, Nusrat Seher Abbasi and others were also present.

According to the party spokesperson the meeting expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation as well as political interference in the census exercise and demanded immediate intervention of the armed forces to make the process transparent.

“We respect the reconciliation policy of President Zardari, but the local leadership of PPP is not cooperating with us, therefore the party has decided to give up government at the federal and provincial level,” he said.

Talking to The Express Tribune Sadruddin Shah Rashdi said that before tendering resignations they would talk to President Zardari and lodge their complaints regarding census and other issues. He said that there are many areas in the province where police cannot enter and initiating the census work is not possible.

“The government had announced the setting up of complaint centres at DCO and DDO offices in every district, but not a single centre has started functioning in the province,” he said

Rashdi said that there was no need to remain in a government, which was unable to resolve the problems of the people.
