PFA crackdown on soft drinks

PFA had decided to ban the sale of all types of soft and energy drinks at educational institutions across Punjab

LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has started a crackdown against educational institutes across the province by issuing notices to 41 schools for selling aerated soft drinks to students.



According to PFA Additional Director General Rafia Haider, as many as 131 schools of the provincial capital were checked and majority of the institutes were not offering these drinks. The teams also inspected 54 schools of Multan, 49 of Rawalpindi, 38 of Faisalabad, 44 of Gujranwala and served warnings to the schools on having soft drinks in their canteens.



The PFA had decided to impose a ban on the sale of all types of soft and energy drinks at educational institutions across Punjab from August 14. The authority had issued instructions to all the beverage manufacturing companies that they cannot supply soft drinks to any educational institution.

The authority had also barred beverage manufacturers from supplying soft or energy drinks to shopkeepers, canteens and drink corners in 100 metres of educational institutions.
